On August 28, 2023, Ikeda Mamoru and I went out for a test drive of the Champion 181, which is nearing completion, in the western part of Hachirogata in midsummer. A short 18-foot bass boat combined with a Mercury Racing Pro Max 200 is shaping up to be a hot champion boat. We drove carefully to avoid blowing up the precious engine before it was completed. Still, on the way back to the marina, I caught a lucky tailwind and found myself hitting the 106km/h mark. There’s still plenty of travel in the foot pedal, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much speed I’ll be able to achieve once it’s completed.
This test run is conducted after confirming the safety of the boat.
